TUART HILL JUNIOR SOCCER CLUB – A SHORT HISTORY

Early seventies

The Club was formed on the 31st March 1965 by Mr Peter Gravestock and was named “St Phillips Tuart Hill Football Club”. In the same year, the name was changed to “Tuart Hill Soccer Club”. On the 16th October, 1967 an amalgamation took place with a Dutch club “Sports United” and the name was then changed to “Tuart Hill Sports United”.
The 9th October 1969 saw the name revert back to Tuart Hill Soccer Club and on the 14th December, 1970 the senior section was disbanded. Tuart Hill then became a “juniors only” club and the name changed in March 1973 to the current “Tuart Hill Junior Soccer Club”.
Originally, the Club colours were green, gold and mauve. The colours changed in 1967 to red shirts, blue socks with white shorts. In 1973 the colours changed again to royal blue shirts with white trim, royal blue shorts and socks. In 2008, the colours changed to the present combination of royal blue shirts with white trims, white shorts and royal blue socks.
Grenville Reserve was used as the Club’s ‘home ground’ until 1973 when the City of Stirling allocated Woodchester Reserve to the Club as a “Home Ground” and has been used as a home ground since 1974.

Early in 1980, negotiations began with the City of Stirling to allow the building of a club room. Agreement was reached on the basis of the city providing part funding while the Club was to fund the remainder. The Club was also to provide volunteer labour for the erection of the building.
The Club Room which resulted from this project stands as a monument to what can be achieved by a group of community minded citizens who have the welfare of young people uppermost in their minds.
The Club Room was officially opened on 6th June 1981 by the City of Stirling Mayor, Mr Graham Burkett J.P.
In 2009 the Northern Roos Metropolitan team approached the club to develop a social team and promote the Tuart Hill identity in the Metropolitan League. Since the introduction of the Northern Roos the team has provided the club with outstanding coaches and great ideas.
The Club has enjoyed many successes over the years, with many players having played at State level and with recent players being selected in first and premier division teams. This is mainly due to the coaching being done by parents who had an interest in being involved.
Tuart Hill Junior Soccer Club has a proud record of achievement. With continued support from members and the community at large, Tuart Hill can look forward to being home for young soccer players for many years to come.
